Why Snapchat Export Links Expire
Snapchat sends your data export as a temporary download link. If the link expires, stops working, or points to a file you can no longer download, you usually need to request the export again.
This is frustrating, but it is better to restart cleanly than to work from a partial archive.
First, Check Whether You Have the Right File
If Snapchat sent multiple ZIP files, you may not need all of them.
Look for the ZIP that contains one of these files:
memories_history.jsonmemories_history.html
That file is usually in the first ZIP. If you already downloaded it, you may still be able to process your Memories even if the other links expired.
If the Link Is Fully Expired
Request a fresh export from Snapchat.
When you request it again:
- Choose Memories
- Include JSON files
- Use an email address you can access
- Download the ZIP as soon as it arrives
- Keep the ZIP until your archive has been checked
Do not wait several days before downloading. Temporary links can fail when you need them most.
How to Avoid Repeating the Same Problem
After you receive the next export, process it before the link becomes stale.
LeaveSnap checks the export file, recovers the Memories links, and builds an archive you can keep. Once the archive is downloaded, you no longer depend on Snapchat's temporary export link.
When to Use LeaveSnap
Use LeaveSnap after you have a ZIP that contains the Memories history file.
If the ZIP does not contain that file, request the export again with Memories and JSON files enabled.
